British soul singer Michael Kiwanuka is collaborating with a team of New York and London-based musicians to form Movement Records.

The Mercury Music Prize nominated artist will act as board director and A&R for the new label with a series of singles planned as well as a live showcase before the end of 2013.

Michael is also anticipating collaborating with artists working on the label in 2014.

The focus of Movement is expected to be on organic, ‘soul-rooted’ sounds with all releases to be recorded at Movement Records studio in North London.

Michael said: 'Music from the heart goes straight to the heart. Music that can move you is good music and that's what Movement Records are focused on doing.’

According to the label, all its artists will focus on using traditional recording techniques as well as the classic gear and rare instruments the Movement team has spent the last ten years collecting.
