North London singer songwriter Michael Kiwanuka has been named as the winner of the BBC's Sound of 2012 poll.
Signed to Ben Lovett's Communion label, Kiwanuka's music is an organic rootsy fusion, reminiscent of the likes of Bill Withers , Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Richie Havens.
Kiwanuka said in a statement: 'It's very encouraging for some of my music to be noticed and considered as something worth listening to. I think it's every musician's dream to have any sort of recognition for their art, something that is so personal. This is something that I don't take for granted.'
The singer's Tell Me A Tale EP was released in June 2011, closely followed by I'm Getting Ready. Debut album Home Again is scheduled for a release in March 2012.
