The eligibility period for this year's Barclaycard Mercury Prize has been extended.
Announcing the change, Dan Ford from the Barclaycard Mercury Prize said '...This year's eligibility period for entries will be extended to include UK albums released between Tuesday 12 July 2011 and Monday 10 September 2012.'
In addition, the shortlist of 12 Albums of the Year will be announced at the end of summer, on Wednesday 12 September, a move the Mercury Prize organisers hope will generate even more interest in the shortlisted artists.
The overall winner will be announced at the Awards Show on Thursday 1 November 2012. Last year's winner was PJ Harvey for her album Let England Shake.
