West Suffolk MP Matt Hancock has been appointed as the new minister of state for culture, communications and creative industries, replacing the outgoing Ed Vaizey.
The move is as part of a cabinet reshuffle led by the UK’s new prime minister Theresa May.
Ed Vaizey announced his departure from government via Twitter, tweeting: ‘Looking forward to supporting the government from the backbenches #vexit.’
He was a vocal politician in the music industry after six years in the role. Most recently he praised the ongoing success of UK grime artists, stating that the likes of Stormzy and Skepta had taken the UK government ‘by storm’.
Previously, Matt Hancock was the minister for the cabinet office and paymaster general and served jointly as minister of state for business and enterprise and minister of state for energy in the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government.
Elsewhere, Theresa May also replaced John Whittingdale MP with Karen Bradley MP to serve as secretary of state for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
Karen was formerly a Home Office minister under Theresa May, having responsibility for crime prevention.
