Singer songwriter Mary Epworth is the first artist to work at a new London studio opened in honour of internationally renowned producer Tony Visconti.
She was chosen to become the first to record with Visconti at the new facility at Kingston University London.
All this week they're creating some new material, which will premiere at the studio’s official launch on 19 September.
The unit forms the centre of Kingston University‘s research and teaching project The Heritage and Future of Analogue Recording and Production.
Based around a 300m2 octagonal live room and stocked with vintage and rare recording equipment, the tape-based studio also features a unique collection of instruments.
The project will see Visconti working with students and staff of Kingston University, as well as invited artists, to produce records, with students training in recording techniques and the use and maintenance of equipment.
The producer himself will be a key contributor to the project’s research and enterprise outputs.
Also on 19 September, Visconti will receive a Kingston University Honorary Doctorate and Visiting Professorate.
