The Bristolian post-punk pioneer and founder member of The Pop Group will follow the release of his acclaimed album The Politics of Envy with a three-date dub tour featuring Bovell.
Stewart’s full live band will also be joined on-stage by PiL’s Keith Levine while eighties noiseniks 23 Skidoo and Young Echo will support.
The whistle-stop tour alights at The Assembly, Leamington Spa on 22 October, followed by Bristol’s Trinity Centre on 23 and the O2 Islington Academy on 24.
Stewart’s latest studio album The Politics of Envy was released in March last year and was followed by its dub-influenced companion Exorcism Of Envy in December.
The sets feature an impressive roll-call of collaborators including Keith Levene (Clash/PiL), Richard Hell (Television, Voidoids), Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Gina Birch (The Raincoats), Tessa Pollitt (The Slits), Douglas Hart (Jesus and Mary Chain), Factory Floor, Daddy G (Massive Attack), Primal Scream, Youth (Killing Joke) and Bristol new blood Kahn.
Reggae legend Bovell started making music under his Blackbeard moniker in the seventies, before going on to produce records by Orange Juice, Madness, The Pop Group, Fela Kuti and The Slits. He is also Linton Kwesi Johnson’s long-time collaborator and is co-founder of iconic London label Lovers Rock.
