Marc Bolan’s son Rolan Seymour Feld is launching legal action against his father’s music publisher for an alleged violation of copyright laws.

According to reports, Rolan is suing Westminster Music Limited for $2m (£1.3m) claiming that he is the sole owner of the rights to Bolan’s back catalogue.

He has alleged that while the publishers did strike a deal with the star in 1968, they never legally extended the contract, making Rolan the owner of the rights for the songs in the US.

According to the court documents, reported by the BBC, Rolan said: ‘In an attempt to cover up their conduct and mislead the public as to the true owner and administrator of the United States copyright in and to each of the compositions, defendants falsely registered with the copyright office a claim to the renewed and extended term of copyright for each of the compositions.’

Westminster Music Limited has yet to comment on the story.

Bolan, whose real name was Mark Feld, died in a car accident in 1977.

He formed the rock band T-Rex in 1967 and went on to enjoy great success with hits including Get it On and Children of the Revolution.
