The 2020 BRIT awards announcement revealed that only one British woman – Mabel – was nominated across 25 slots in mixed-gender categories.
There is no female representation in either the Best Group or Mastercard Album of the Year categories.
She and Stormzy have three nominations each, including for Best Male and Best Female Solo Artist.
Meanwhile, Harry Styles has received his first solo nomination for Mastercard Album of the Year, for his second album Fine Line.
Michael Kiwanuka has also been recognised in the same category for his third album, Kiwanuka.
In a set of nominations slim on female talent, Celeste was previously announced as the winner of the Rising Star Award alongside topping the BBC Sound of 2020 poll last week.
The 40th edition of the BRIT Awards takes place at London’s O2 Arena on 18 February and will be screened live on ITV.
Comedian Jack Whitehall will host the ceremony for the third year running.
