Controversial artist and songwriter M.I.A has signed a global publishing deal with BMG Chrysalis UK.

The new deal will cover all future compositions by the Grammy and Oscar-nominated artist, who was previously named by Time Magazine as one of the world’s biggest influencers.

So far, M.I.A has released four albums to date, including debut Arular, 2007’s Kala and last year’s Matangi. Hit singles include Boyz, Paper Planes and Bad Girls.

Alexi Cory-Smith, BMG Chrysalis UK EVP, said: ‘This is truly a marquee signing. M.I.A. is one of the great leaders and influencers and innovators in contemporary popular culture. We are extremely pleased that she has chosen BMG to represent her future work.’

Other songwriting work for M.I.A includes hits for the likes of Madonna, Nicki Minaj and Christina Aguilera.

Earlier in November, BMG Chrysalis UK announced it had signed a publishing deal with XL/Young Turks artist, FKA Twigs.
