We’re excited to announce we’ve teamed up with Independent Venue Week and London venue the Sebright Arms once again for a night of wonky sounds, live surprises and fab records.
Our night on Thursday 26 January will feature Pictish Trail, who we know will knock your socks off.
Psych-loving, Eigg-dwelling far-out entertainer Johnny Lynch (aka Pictish Trail) has way more up his glittery sleeves than witty anecdotes and beautiful melodies.
His latest record, Future Echoes, finds the Scottish troubadour at his technicolour best, weaving pop confections, prog voyages and indie interludes around his homespun folk.
Its endless enthusiasm and ingenious ideas all spill over into his live show, bringing light and laughs wherever he takes it. With that in mind, we're tickled pink to have him headline.
Support comes from Manuela (Lost Map Records) and newcomers Graceland with a DJ set from rising electronic priestess Moonbow (Siren Collective/NTS Radio).
Manuela are vocalist and songwriter Manuela Gernedel and ex-Franz Ferdinand guitarist Nick McCarthy. Together, they cook up disco-inflected post-punk that thrums with snappy percussion and snipped guitars.
They officially arrived last summer with the luminous track Cracks in the Concrete. With coy vocal hooks and art-rocking propulsion, it clatters along at an infectious pace - surely a hearty indicator of good sounds to come.
Their debut album for Pictish Trail’s askew Lost Map Records will follow this year, featuring Django Django’s Jim Dixon, Mystery Jets’ William Reese, Veronica Falls’ Roxanne Clifford and Nick’s ex-bandmate Paul Thomson.
We’re pleased as punch to announce Graceland as the latest addition to our bill. Making thoughtful, yet angry pop music these four sisters from the East are an impressive live force taking their stimulation from the Breeders, Paul Simon and every other sonic angle in between.
The gang has enjoyed support from a range of tastemakers so far including BBC Radio 1, Radio X and Amazing Radio and Gemma Cairney and Rob da Bank. You can check out their new video to single Fleetwood here.
Moonbow is the brainchild of creative polymath Eleanor Hardwick, who creates cosmic electronics inspired by her transcendental record collection.
Her own sound is a technicolour dreamtime halfway between The Knife and Grimes, which layers trippy pop on a transient techno base.
Her latest EP, Altering Ego, features vocals from Dream Wife’s Alice Go and remixes from Flamingods, Soldier’s Heart and Conrad Kira.
She also plays, DJs and curates as part of Siren Collective - nine female-identified DJs and producers who create club nights, warehouse parties and ‘zines under the slogan ‘no bullshit, just dancing’.
