London’s O2 Arena is now the most popular venue in the world after ticket sales of more than 2m in 2012.

The venue reported revenues of £63m for 2012 following sold out gigs for the likes of The Rolling Stones, Robbie Williams and Beyonce, the Evening Standard reported.

Hosting some of last year’s London 2012 Olympics programme of events has also contributed to the arena’s success.

Sarah Brooks, finance director at the O2, said: ‘The increase in revenue in the year is mainly due to the Olympic and Paralympic rental.’

The news is also good for the British tax payer as the state owns a 15 per cent stake in net profits. This figure increased by 35 per cent to reach £15.5?m.

Revenues for last year are believed to be the highest in the venue’s history since opening as The O2 Arena back in 2007.
