Venues and promoters across London have come together for Support Act, a new initiative raising money to help change the lives of refugees in the capital.
Support Act will ask guestlisters to donate £1 on entry to gigs, with all proceeds going to Refugee Action and Road To Freedom.
The funds will help the charities continue their work helping refugees in London whose lives have been turned upside down.
The launch show takes place at Kamio on 14 July and will feature special guests yet to be announced plus London 'poolside pop' trio Dream Wife.
From then on, gig-goers should expect to see donation boxes on the doors of participating venues across London.
Among the promoters and venues backing Support Act are Eat Your Own Ears, Baba Yaga’s Hut, Soundcrash, Rockfeedback, Village Underground, The Shacklewell Arms, Lock Tavern, Old Blue Last and Bird on a Wire.
Support Act was inspired by Berlin’s Plus 1 initiative, which has raised more than €40,000 so far.
The group behind the UK programme is made up of music industry experts whose shared passion has seen them work together to make a difference.
A spokesperson for the initiative said: ‘When we came up with the idea, inspired by Plus 1 in Berlin, we didn’t know how receptive people would be but we’ve been overwhelmed by the support of promoters and venues across London who’ve all been really keen to get involved.’
