Lilly Vadaneaux, an 11 year-old composer, is the youngest ever winner of a National Centre for Early Music (NCEM) Composers Award.

Lilly, who is also the youngest composer to enter the competition, triumphed in the 18 years and under category while the 20 year old Joseph Howard won the 19 to 25 years old group.

The two winning entries - Lilly’s Sarabande in F sharp minor and Joseph’s Move! - will be officially premièred by Florilegium at the Bath International Music Festival at St Mary's Church Bathwick on 1 June.

Delma Tomlin, Director of the NCEM, said: ‘Yet again we have been astonished by the consistently high standard of entries and wealth of ideas around the given theme.

‘It is inspiring to witness these young composers collaborate with each other and clearly enjoy their time at the NCEM with members of Florilegium and Christopher Fox.’

Young composers were invited to write a contemporary response to one of the predominant chamber music forms of the Baroque.

They were asked to score an instrumental 'dance' for the four core players of Florilegium to play. This was then performed by the Florilegium in front of a panel of judges.

These performances can seen via a recording from the final. You can stream this until 20 May.
