Are you a songwriter or composer who needs to learn more about contract negotiation in the music industry?

The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) will be holding an event aimed at helping songwriters negotiate contracts, navigate legal issues in music and understand how royalties arise and are accounted for.

The organisation hopes that the session will result in empowering songwriters and composers to better negotiate their own contract terms and will shine a light on some of the more complex legal aspects of working in the music industry.

The day will be led by music industry tax specialist, Eric Longley and music business lawyer Simon Long.

With contract negotiation forming the main focus of the session, Eric and Simon will lead a workshop activity that sees participants navigating complex hypothetical publishing deals to better understand the process.

Both Eric and Simon will be advising throughout the activity and will ultimately act as the record label and publishers in negotiating these contracts with participants.

The event will be held at the offices of CC Young & Co Ltd in London on September 29th.

Tickets will be £30 for BASCA professional and standard members, £40 for BASCA digital members, £50 for affiliate organisations and £60 for the general public.

Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite.
