Folk singer songwriter Laura Marling has launched a series of podcasts exploring the experiences of women in the music industry.
Reversal of the Muse aims to shine a light on the challenges posed by a male-dominated music industry and dispel myths about female creativity.
The first two episodes, released today (22 August), feature LA indie trio Haim and sound engineer Vanessa Parr.
Haim share their thoughts on life as professional female musicians touring the world, while Parr, who’s worked with Elton John, Corinne Bailey Rae, Alison Krauss and Coldplay, tells of her experiences breaking into a male-dominated field.
Marling said on the project’s dedicated website: ‘It occurred to me that in 10 years of making records I had only come across two female engineers working in studios.
‘Starting from my experience of being a woman I began to ask myself what difference it might have made had I had more women around, if any.
‘I wanted to know why progress has been so slow in this area and what effect it would have on music.’
