UK star Labrinth has secured his first UK number one with latest single Beneath Your Beautiful.

The Hackney-born rapper’s collaboration with Emelie Sande is the sixth single to be taken from his Electronic Earth album – but first to take the top spot in the UK charts.

Labrinth, who was the first non-reality TV star to sign to Simon Cowell’s Syco label, has enjoyed previous success with debut single Let The Sun Shine and Tine Tempah collaboration Earthquake – he also co-wrote and produced the latter’s hit Pass Out.

However, Beneath Your Beautiful, which was co-written with Sande, is his most successful work to date - the single sold almost 108,000 copies to reach number one.

Elsewhere the upper echelons of the charts are littered with British singers and songwriters.

Boy band JLS reached number six with their latest single Hottest Girl in The World. Watford songwriter/artist Naughty Boy also gained his first top ten single with Wonder, another collaboration featuring Emeli Sande.

Meanwhile in the album charts Taylor Swift holds the top spot with Red. Former N-Dubz member Dappy’s debut album Bad Intentions is one of the highest new entries at number six.

Labrinth is one of the prime contenders to triumph in the forthcoming MOBO Awards with four nominations
