Recently reaching number three on the Official UK Albums Chart, Electric gives Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe their fifteenth top ten record in total. It has also scored well in the States, becoming their seventh album to reach the top 40.

Elsewhere, pop’s current golden boys One Direction recently broke the record for most views on Vevo (12.3 million) in 24 hours with the video for new single Best Song Ever. The track has given the British quintet their highest US Billboard Hot 100 position to date shooting straight in at number two.  In the UK it qualifies as their eighth top ten smash, an impressive tally clocked up in just under two years.

Other British acts on the American Hot 100 include Ellie Goulding who has a strong new entry with Burn as well as ongoing top 20 success with Calvin Harris collaboration I Need Your Love. Meanwhile, Labrinth and Emeli Sande vault a magnificent 52 places upwards into the top 40 with Beneath Your Beautiful.

The summer of dance music continues with US star Robin Thicke still enjoying massive global success with his juggernaut hit Blurred Lines. Currently atop the US Hot 100 for an eighth week, it was also recently confirmed by the Official Charts Company as the 137th single to sell over a million copies in the UK.

It is the second single released in 2013 to cross the million-seller barrier, the first being that other blockbuster featuring Pharrell Williams; Get Lucky by Daft Punk.

However, it is Swedish DJ and producer Avicii who is currently topping the UK singles chart for a third week with Wake Me Up. The monster hit shifted almost 267,000 copies in its first week alone making it the year’s fastest selling single. Having now sold over half a million here, it is also topping charts across Europe and Australia.

This week’s UK album chart sees Britain’s Got Talent operatic finalists Richard & Adam take pole position with The Impossible Dream. Scouting for Girls score a fourth consecutive top ten album with their Greatest Hits collection while Calvin Harris has set yet another chart record. His 18 Months album becomes the first to deliver nine top ten hits with Thinking About You being the latest.
