Electronic producer and Hyperdub founder Kode9, aka Steve Goodman, is to receive the new AIM Innovator Award.

He will be presented with the prize at the Association of Independent’s Music (AIM) Awards on 2 September at an event at the Brewery in Clerkenwell, London.

Steve started Hyperdub as a label in 2004 after it was launched as a webzine in 2001. Since then the imprint has become a by-word for some of the most inventive, forward thinking electronic artists around including DVA, Jessy Lanza, Cooly G and Hype Williams.

The label has also acted as a vessel for Steve’s own music as Kode9. He’s released two albums with vocalist collaborator Spaceape including Memories of Future (2006) and Black Sun (2010), plus three DJ mix compilations, remixes for Lee Scratch Perry (On U Sound) and Junior Boys and hosted regular shows on Rinse FM.

Commenting on the news, Steve said: ‘You can only do so much on your own, so really this award is for all the artists I work with and the team that distribute and promote our music behind the scenes. Thanks and congratulations to them.’

Hyperdub is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year with numerous compilations while a new EP as Kode9 is also expected to see release soon.

Tickets for this year’s AIM Music Awards are available from www.musicindie.com/awards.
