Independent artists, labels and music projects raised more than $34.1m (£22m) through Kickstarter in 2014, according to the company’s latest figures.
This sum was spread over 4,009 successful projects which hit their funding targets.
It means music was the most popular category in terms of successfully-funded projects on Kickstarter the platform during 2014.
Nine categories had over 1,000 successfully funded projects, with music, film, and publishing topping the charts.
The figures also show that music initiatives were more successful in securing their financial requirements than all other categories, including film and video, games, art and publishing.
Further findings from the study showed that Wednesday was the most popular day for pledges with early afternoon was one of the most popular times to pledge.
