BBC Sound of 2015 poll winners Years & Years have stormed straight to the top of the UK albums chart this week with their debut long player Communion.

The electro-pop trio have had a magnificent year so far with their anthemic track King not only hitting pole position in March, but also becoming an international smash.

With their debut long player selling more in its first week than the rest of the top five combined and follow up single Shine holding at number two, they continue to be one of 2015’s big breakthrough stories.

Over on the UK singles chart this week, girl band Little Mix achieved their third number one hit to date with Black Magic racking up combined sales of 113,000, according to Official Charts Company (OCC) data.

The 2011 X Factor winners have previously topped the chart with their cover of Damien Rice’s Cannonball as well as their signature hit Wings. Black Magic is already starting to work its spell overseas too, bagging a top ten position in Australia.

This week’s UK chart also sees a new entry at number four for Dutch DJ/producer Sam Feldt ft Kimberly Anne with a cover of a veritable 90s club classic, Show Me Love, originally by Robin S.

The original version hit number six back in 1993 spending 25 weeks on the chart, as well as climbing to number five on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Meanwhile, the OCC made headlines earlier this month with a much publicised switch which sees them no longer announced on Sunday nights, but Friday afternoons instead.

Leaving the familiar BBC Radio 1 end of weekend slot to feature as part of the Greg James drivetime show brings the charts in line with the music industry’s decision to make Friday the global release date for new music.

British DJ David Zowie had the honour of being the first singles chart-topper to be announced on a Friday, thanks to his dance tune House Every Weekend.

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran took the prize for the first album to hit the top in the new slot, with X returning to the summit despite being on the chart for over a year.

The biggest selling album of 2014, Sheeran’s second set has sold over two million copies in the UK and contains two number one singles, Sing and Thinking Out Loud.

Elsewhere, the impact of a winning performance at Glastonbury sales was being felt widely on the albums chart at the start of July with soul legend Lionel Richie receiving the biggest boost.

After a storming Sunday afternoon set which included evergreen numbers All Night Long (All Night), Hello and Dancing on the Ceiling, the superstar found himself back at number one with The Definitive Collection.

The compilation, featuring classics from Lionel’s solo and Commodores days, is his first British chart-topper since another greatest hits set, Back to Front, reached the summit in 1992.

Finally, in the States this week, Jamaica’s OMI takes pole position on the Hot 100 singles chart with former UK and international chart-topper Cheerleader, while US hip hop star Meek Mill rules the albums listings with Dreams Worth More Than Money.
