John Rutter CBE is set to become the next Fellow of The Ivors Academy.

The celebrated composer and conductor, who arranged six pieces of music for King Charles III's coronation service earlier this year, will receive the honour on 14 November during The Ivors Classical Awards, which are sponsored by PRS for Music.

John previously received an Ivor Novello award in 2007 to recognise his outstanding contribution to classical music, and he will now join the likes of Kate Bush CBE, Sir Elton John and Sir Paul McCartney as an Ivors Academy Fellow.

'I am deeply grateful to the Ivors Academy for this wonderful and completely unexpected honour, which I shall cherish in all the days ahead,' John said in a statement about the honour. 'It will certainly spur me on in my future work!'

Tom Gray, Chair of The Ivors Academy, added: 'John Rutter’s compositions are brilliant and emotionally resonant. He is a master of choral music, creating moments of soaring beauty and transcendence.

'He has inspired listeners and choirs across the globe and truly deserves to be recognised with our highest honour, Fellowship of The Ivors Academy.'

John will become the 25th musician to be honoured with an Ivors Academy Fellowship, which, since its introduction in 2000, has 'recognised excellence and impact in the art and craft of music creation'.

Formerly known as The Ivors Composer Awards, the relaunched Ivors Classical Awards will this year 'celebrate creative excellence in composition for contemporary classical and sound art'.

The Ivors Classical Awards, sponsored by PRS for Music, will take place on 14 November at the BFI Southbank in London, and tickets for the ceremony are on sale now from here.

BBC Radio 3 will broadcast the ceremony in a special edition of the New Music Show on Saturday 18 November at 10pm, which will also be available on BBC Sounds.
