John Newman, collaborator with dance act Rudimental and now solo artist in his own right, has achieved his first number one with debut single Love Me Again.

His first solo release sold more than 125,000 copies to take the top spot in the charts. Love Me Again is the 12th consecutive number one single to shift more than 100,000 units in 2013 so far.

With Rudimental, the 22 year-old fronted as well as helped co-write the band's huge hits Feel the Love and Not Giving In.

John said: ‘I've just found out I'm number one in the official charts, which is absolutely amazing and very overwhelming. Thank you so so much everybody for buying the single.

'As a debut act it's incredible to get a single to number one, a great experience and hopefully the start of many more things to come. Thank you!’

Describing the track, he said: ‘Love Me Again is a song I wanted to produce that threw all my influences together. I was searching for a song in the studio that was everything that summed me up and put me into a sound.’

Robin Thicke stays at number two with Blurred Lines, while last week’s number one I Love It by Swedish electro duo Icona Pop FT Charli XCX falls to number three.

Meanwhile, in the album charts Mumford and Sons capitalised on their headline set at Glastonbury by taking the top spot in the album charts with their second album Babel.

The album climbed fifteen places to number one to beat Michael Buble’s previous chart topper To Be Loved.
