The Music Producers Guild will host The Art of Making Records, a panel session at this year’s XpoNorth, an music and arts conference in Inverness.

Taking place on the second day of the event on 9 June, The Art of Making Records, the panel will explore the creativity and skill that goes into making a record.

The free panel will see producer and MPG Award winner John Leckie (Radiohead, The Coral, Muse), Cam Blackwood (George Ezra, London Grammar, Florence and the Machine) and Dave Bascombe (Tears For Fears, Echo and the Bunnymen, Peter Gabriel) all speaking. They will be joined by Brett Cox, winner of the MPG’s Breakthrough Engineer of the Year Award for 2016, and by MPG Executive Director Andrew Hunt who will host the discussion.

Commenting, Andrew said: ‘In recent times there's been plenty of focus on the healthy revenue that still exists for artists playing live.

‘Regardless of whether or not this is true, we believe that the actual process of making a record should be acknowledged because it is an art form in its own right. As an organisation that represents the interests of recording professionals, we feel this should be celebrated and championed.’

Devoted to boosting creative careers in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and beyond, XpoNorth includes a number of daytime panels and workshops and provides showcasing opportunities for artists and bands from all over Europe.
