Jazz FM’s listening hours have risen to more than three million, up 84 percent year-on-year, according to new figures for the second quarter of 2018.

The latest Radio Joint Audience Research (RAJAR) report finds that the station has also increased its adult weekly reach to 672,000, up 14 percent quarter-on-quarter and 21 percent year-on-year.

Nick Pitts, content director at Jazz FM, said: ‘We are really proud to reflect the tangible increasing love for jazz that is evident in festivals and live venues across the country. These results also mirror the great response that we get every day from our listeners.’

At the BBC, digital stations 1Xtra, Asian Network, World Service and 5 Live Sports Extra were the only national services to see their audiences increase last quarter.

Year-on-year, there were also audience reach increases for FM broadcasts of 6 Music, Asian Network, and very small rises for Radio 2 and 1Xtra.

Overall, Radio 2’s share of UK listening is now 17.9 percent – up from 17.6 percent last quarter and 16.8 percent a year ago. It now reaches 14.9 million weekly listeners, a small increase from 14.8 million a year ago but down from its 15.4 million reach last quarter.

Elsewhere, Radio 6 Music’s year-on-year growth of almost 10 percent takes it to a reach of 2.4 million.

BBC Radio 1 was down on the year by 3.7 percent to 9.24 million, and down 2.4 percent on the quarter.

Commercial radio grew its share to 45.7 percent during the second quarter of 2018, up from 44.9 percent in the last quarter, and 45 percent year-on-year. Heart was up 2.8 percent, Capital up 0.2 percent and Kiss up 1.9 percent.
