Calling all British-based composers – JAM has opened its annual call for new music to be performed at its 2018 season opening concert.
The call covers scores for choir, brass quintet and organ, or any combination of these forces.
Successful submissions will be performed at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street, London on 22 March.
The concert will host The Chapel Choir of Selwyn College Cambridge, Onyx Brass and Simon Hogan (organ), conducted by Michael Bawtree.
Successful entries will sit alongside JAM commissions including Jonathan Dove’s The Far Theatricals of Day and Voices of Vimy by Tom Harrold and Stuart Beatch, with words by Grahame Davies.
The concert will be professionally recorded and attended by the general public plus publishers, commissioners, concert/festival managers and the media.
A maximum time limit of 10 minutes per piece is stipulated, with no minimum limit specified.
Composers are urged to pick their best pieces, and limit their submissions to three.
All music submitted must be on paper, accompanied by a recording, which does not have to be to professional standard as it will only be used for reference during the selection process.
