Jack Garratt, electronic artist-producer and multi-instrumentalist, has been named as the winner of the BBC Sound of 2016 poll.

The Chalfont-born, now London-based artist released his debut, the limited edition Remnants EP, last year after first coming to attention via submitting music to the BBC Introducing platform.

He has since sold out a UK tour and supported Mumford & Sons on their recent UK tour dates. His hotly anticipated debut album Phase is due to be released this February.

Commenting, Jack said: ‘Winning the BBC Music Sound of 2016 poll has left me feeling pretty stunned at the end of one of the most emotionally and physically intense years of my life.

‘I cannot thank the BBC enough for their continued support, and everyone who voted. Every other name on the list is unbelievably talented, and I hope this year will be a great one for all of us.’

Jack beat the likes of Mura Masa and Izzy Bizu to take the BBC Sound of title. He follows in the footsteps of previous winners Sam Smith and LA pop band HAIM.

Around 140 influential music industry experts including DJs, critics and bloggers voted in this year’s list. They were asked to name their three favourite new acts by BBC News.
