Singer songwriter Jack Garratt has been named as winner of BBC Introducing Artist of the Year Award at its forthcoming BBC Music Awards.
Jack, who has been likened to the likes of James Blake, will perform alongside some of the biggest UK and international artists at the event on 10 December as part of the BBC’s annual ceremony to celebrate the year in music.
This year Jack played the BBC Introducing showcase at SXSW [South by Southwest Festival] in Austin before returning as the surprise act on the BBC Introducing stage at Reading Festival.
Huw Stephens, BBC Introducing champion and Radio 1 presenter, said: ‘Once you've seen Jack Garratt play on stage, you'll never forget it.
‘His style is so ambitious, and he pulls it off completely. His music and production is forward-thinking, playing everything himself and making it sound so layered and beautiful, coupled with some really poignant and beautiful lyrics. I first heard him via BBC Introducing in Beds, Herts & Bucks who were big fans of this new, bearded singer-songwriter with a different musical style to everyone else.’
Born and raised in Little Chalfont, Buckinghamshire, multi-instrumentalist Jack will release his highly anticipated debut album, Phase, on 19 February 2016 through Island Records.
He will join the likes of Ellie Goulding, Hozier, Jess Glynne and Little Mix when he plays at the BBC Music Awards.
