Incorporated Society of Musicians Trust (ISM Trust) will be hosting a one-day event in October aimed at supporting musicians in building sustainable careers.

The Empowered Musician, held on October 4th at Milton Court in London, will bring together 500 performers and composers for a series of panel discussions and live music performances from innovators and leading industry experts.

Attendees at the event will be taught about essential legal and business skills, be exposed to future opportunities for musicians in the digital arena and receive advice on staying well throughout their careers.

The event, which is sponsored by PRS for Music, will see live performances from Fitkinwall, The Beatbox Collective and Riot Jazz.

The third panel of the day, titled Looking After Yourself, seeks to address the effects that the demands of being a working musician can have on a person’s health.

An expert panel of health professionals will discuss the ways in which musicians can manage the unique stresses their industry presents and stay well throughout their careers.

The session will cover mental and physical health as well as nutrition and performance anxiety.

Speaking at the panel will be Dr Alison Daubney, researcher and senior teaching fellow at the University of Sussex, Gregory Daubney CPsychol, a sport and exercise Psychologist, Michael Eakin CEO of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Rachel Jepson, Founder of Counselling for Musicians and nutritionist James Collins.

Other panels at the event include Nuts and Bolts, a talk on the fundamentals of the music industry, Making it Happen, in which musicians share their experiences and advice on how to plan a new project or commission, and Digital Futures, a session that aims to consider what the digital future might hold for professional musicians.

Tickets for the event are on sale now and will be available at a discounted price for ISM members.
