Iron Maiden win Silver Clef 2015 Award

Legendary metal band Iron Maiden have won the O2 Silver Clef Award for outstanding contribution to UK music.

Legendary metal band Iron Maiden have won the O2 Silver Clef Award for outstanding contribution to UK music.

The band were unveiled as one of the first winners of this year’s prizes at an evening event hosted by music charity Nordoff Robbins. The organisation is marking its 40th anniversary in 2015.

Iron Maiden have received the award in recognition of their achievements as one of the most successful rock bands of all time. To date the band have sold more than 90m records worldwide and played an estimated 2,000 gigs across the world.

Previous winners of the outstanding contribution prize include David Bowie, Eric Clapton and Oasis.

In a statement, the group said: ‘Nordoff Robbins is an exceptional charity and their dedication to changing people's lives through music therapy is something we all very much support.

‘We're extremely proud to receive the O2 Silver Clef Award and be part of the 40th anniversary event celebrating this wonderful achievement.’

Classical cross over group Il Divo were also announced as winners of the PPL Classical Award.

The annual star-studded O2 Silver Clef Lunch will be held on 3 July at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane. Look out for more winner announcements in the coming weeks.
