Instagram users are more likely to spend money on music and music-related items than those who do not use the photo-sharing service, new research has revealed.

The study, commissioned by Instagram and carried out by Nielsen, analysed the behaviour of app users in the US and the way they interacted with music.

According to the report, users are 42 percent more likely to spend money on music during the year. They also spend 30 percent more time listening to music than the general population.

Further findings revealed that Instagram fans are not only more likely to stream music online, but twice as likely to pay for it.

At festivals and live music events, Instagram is also the top platform for fans as a way to engage with live music

The study was published by Lauren Wirtzer-Seawood, head of Music Partnerships at Instagram.
