’s Andy Ellis is to host a panel examining the income streams available to new songwriters and upcoming artists at the London Folkfest tomorrow (18 July).

He will gather artist manager John Hart, who is currently working with folk musician Blair Dunlop, together with Stuart Ongley (SGO Music) to discuss the options open to emerging acts, including publishing deals, sync opportunities, performance royalties and more.

The panel will take place at The Bedford, Balham, from 2pm to 3pm.

The discussion comes just days after Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich attacked Spotify over the company’s alleged exploitation of emerging acts. Yesterday a spokesperson from Spotify responded, saying the platform is working hard to support new and emerging artists and is concerned about sustaining their careers.

London Folkfest returns to the capital tomorrow for its third year, bringing more than 30 live acts and three days of workshops, panels and ‘demo drops’ to Balham.

The event is centred round acoustic, bluegrass, roots, folk and country music and will provide insight and advice for emerging songwriters and musicians.

Budding musicians are invited to submit their work into the daily ‘demo drop’ to receive instant feedback from a panel of experts.
