Independent Venue Week returns for its fourth consecutive year from Monday 23 to Sunday 29 January 2017 – with Tim Burgess as ambassador.

The Charlatans frontman and acclaimed solo artist will follow in the footsteps of Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood and troubadour Frank Turner, who have taken the role in previous years.

He will perform live at the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room on 23 January, with support from Tear and Pheromoans.

There are also further Independent Venue Week shows taking place across the UK under Burgess’ Tim Peaks banner.

These kick off on 26 January at The Exchange in Bristol with Yama Warashi and Kayla Painter.

His O Genesis label then launches a mini-tour, including Documenta, Yucatan and Horsebeach.

Elsewhere, funding partner PRS For Music will tour the country in association with PPL and BASCA, staging a series of events for local music communities, including songwriting masterclasses, tips on how to artists can maximise their revenue and more.

In addition, us here at M magazine will be curating a live show at East London gigging institution the Sebright Arms.

Taking place on Thursday 26 January 2017, the night will feature some of our most-loved PRS for Music members.

Also on board for Independent Week are Richard Hawley, Simian Mobile Disco, Martha Wainwright, BBC Sound of 2017 longlist artists Cabbage and Declan McKenna as well as Cass McCoombs, HECK, Beans on Toast, The Moonlandingz, The Carnabys, Skinny Girl Diet, Shame, Dream Wife and Goat Girl.

Staged across 120 venues around the UK, the national event, supported by Arts Council England, is now a firm fixture on the UK’s music calendar giving tens of thousands of fans and hundreds of artists their first taste of live music each year.
