Imogen Heap will preview the Mi.Mu gloves technology at the New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME) conference.

Taking place at Goldsmiths, University of London, from 30 June to 4 July, the event will bring together musicians, composers and scientists to explore the ways music can be performed.

Imogen will perform piano and vocals using the Mi.Mu gloves as part of the Brunel Electronic and Analogue Music’s (BEAM) musical programme - the technology enables the user to live process sounds using only hand movements.

Other artists performing and exhibiting their work as part of BEAM @NIME include Leafcutter John, Kathy Hinde, Laetitia Sonami and John Butcher.

Atau Tanaka, professor of Media Computing at Goldsmiths, said: ‘NIME coming to London is something to celebrate. We want to open this celebration up to include everyone interested in music because digital technology has become part of our everyday musical experience.

‘We’d like to showcase how cutting edge experimentation and this technology so the general public can play around with this and see exactly what the future of music can and will sound like.’

Kaffe Matthews will also be presenting her new, interactive bicycle piece Pedalling Games. Using sensor technology, this bicycle will create music as the user pedals, providing a unique soundtrack to every 'journey'. Visitors will be able to try out the bikes at Goldsmiths’ College Green each afternoon from 1 to 3 July.

Many of the events will be hosted at a variety of venues across London including XOYO, the Amersham Arms and Corsica Studios.

Visit the BEAM website to see the full event programme.

The event iss supported through public funding from Arts Council England, the PRS for Music Foundation, and the European Research Council.
