With the cold weather upon us and Christmas fast approaching, PRS Members' Fund wants to remind PRS for Music members that they may not need to go it alone this winter.

Nicky Graham, chairman, PRS Members’ Fund, says: ‘Life doesn’t get any easier for some of our members and we are getting called upon for help more and more by those in distress through either ill-health and/or financial problems.'

He continued: ‘Whilst Christmas is a joyful time for many, it can be extremely worrying for those who are experiencing difficult times. We recognise that the pathway of a music creator can be very erratic, especially at a psychological and financial level, and it’s important to know that there is support.’

Here are just a few of the ways in which the Fund could help you.

Winter Heating Scheme

The Fund can help members and their dependants who are elderly, sick or vulnerable to stay warm. Subject to the agreement of the committee, the Fund can contribute to your heating bills for the period 1 October to 31 March.

StepChange

If you’re struggling with your debts, StepChange can take a completely impartial look at your full financial situation and recommend the best way to deal with your debts. They can also help you build a budget and provide you with a tailored personal action plan and all the ongoing support you need.

You can find out more about the services they offer and use their online advice tool at stepchange.org.

StepChange’s service is completely confidential and PRS Fund won’t be made aware that you’ve contacted them.

Applying for help

The PRS Members fund can offer financial help when buying household or other essential items.

Do you know a PRS member in need?

The Fund can accept referrals from other members, friends or professional care workers, with the member’s consent.

In May 2020, during Mental Health Awareness Week, the Fund will be hosting a live event at Shepherds Bush Empire in order to shine a light on mental health issues within the music industry. Artists who have suffered from associated illnesses, first-hand or through their peers, will unite to raise awareness. Further information on the event will be available in the new year.

You can find more information about any of the above schemes on the PRS Members' Fund website.
