HMV is to return to the site of its original flagship store at 363 Oxford Street.

Hilco, the restructuring firm which stepped in to prop up the ailing retailer earlier in the year, confirmed HMV’s move to the location. This is expected to take place in October of this year.

This previous site is famous for being the record shop that played a crucial role in ensuring the Beatles were signed.

A plaque on the building at 363 Oxford Street states that a 78 rpm demo disc of the band was cut in the store’s recording studio. This resulted in the fab four signing a recording contract with EMI.

Paul McGowan, HMV chaiman, said: ‘We are thrilled to be returning to HMV to its original home at 363 Oxford Street and this reflects HMV’s renewed focus on going back to its roots and getting the basics right, providing the deepest range of entertainment products.’

The store is expected to include a recreation of the store’s iconic 1950s His Master’s Voice neon signage when it re-opens.

Canadian restructuring firm Hilco acquired HMV earlier this year in a deal which saved 2,500 jobs and 141 shops.
