Help Musicians UK has announced the latest recipients of its Career Development Bursaries, totalling more than £21,000.
This latest funding round is the fifth from the music charity’s initiative and sees 20 musicians across a variety of genres rewarded.
Chris Sheehan, Karousel Music director and one of the judging panel, said: ‘It was a privilege as ever to be involved in the Career Development Bursary panel. If there’s one thing I’ve come to love about Help Musicians UK, it’s the support they’re providing for new music across all genres. We heard a cross section of artists from classical to folk, indie to jazz, and most of what’s in between.
‘Some I’d heard of on the grapevine, some were wonderful new discoveries; all were very well deserving of support. It’s so crucial that those who weave the soundtracks to our lives are given the support at these key points of their careers, and I’m very happy to have been able to play a tiny part in that. I can’t wait to hear what they all come back with!’
Conductor Jack Sheen is one of the recipients and will his bursary to cover travel costs in order to assist the conductor and curator Ilan Volkov during projects with Orchestre Philharmonique Luxembourg, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and Tectonics Festival. His bursary will also go towards assisting the conductor and composer Richard Baker for a project with Bit20 in Bergen, Norway.
