Guy Fletcher OBE has been appointed as the new chairman of the Mayor’s Music Fund.

The board of trustees voted to appoint Guy who left his previous role as PRS chairman at the end of 2016. He will succeed Veronica Wadley, founder trustee and chair since 2014.

Guy has been an ambassador for the fund since 2015. Alongside his work with PRS for Music, he is known for an illustrious songwriting career penning tunes for a variety of stars including Elvis Presley, The Hollies, Cliff Richard, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

The Mayor’s Music Fund is an independent charity for young musicians providing four-year scholarships to children from low-income families, and funds inspirational music projects with top professionals.

Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London and patron of the charity, said he was ‘delighted’ at the appointment. ‘[Guy Fletcher] brings a wealth of experience in the music industry and beyond, and shares a strong empathy with the fund’s mission and commitment to supporting the next generation of musicians across the capital. I look forward to working with him to develop the charity’s excellent work.’

Guy added: ‘During my time as an ambassador, I have greatly admired the work and impact of the Mayor’s Music Fund in helping to develop talent and potential in young musicians who might otherwise have fallen by the wayside. I am thrilled to be joining the board as chair and look forward to working with the mayor and his team to ensure the ongoing success of the Fund’s work.’
