Jack Derbyshire, better known as Jakaboski, has joined a Masters degree programme at the classical establishment, whose alumni includes Bryn Terfel, Sir James Galway and Tasmin Little.
Derbyshire is on the two-year Leadership course, which encourages musicians to work with upcoming performers in their local community.
He will study alongside some of the most promising young musicians and composers in the country, most of whom come from a classical background.
Derbyshire told The Telegraph: ‘I remember going for the first audition and thinking how ridiculous the whole situation was, sitting in a room before you go in with opera going on in the room next door and this girl was polishing her violin and wishing me luck.
‘By going to Guildhall I'm not losing a sense of who I am or where I'm from,’ he added. ‘It will open doors and give me the opportunity to bring that culture and its ideals to others.’
