The BPI and transatlantic sister organisation the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) have reportedly issued Google with their 200 millionth takedown notice.
A new report by Torrentfreak revealed that the music industry had continued to urge the search engine giant to remove pirate content leading links.
The pair recently issued the 200 millionth take down request, a figure which has risen from the 100m recorded just over a year ago.
The most recent statistics showed that the BPI has reported over 138m links in 295,730 notices with the RIAA adding more than 63 million in 19,569 requests.
A BPI spokesperson told the news provider: ‘The fact that BPI and RIAA have together removed 200 million illegal results from Google demonstrates just how much more needs to be done to clean up search.’
‘If the digital single market is to unlock growth, consumers need be directed to legal sources for entertainment ahead of the online black market. BPI alone has had to remove 7.5m links from Google in the last month, protecting UK artists and musicians from sites that steal their work.’
The European Commission recently announced the launch of its Digital Single Market strategy, an initiative aimed at improving e-commerce in Europe.
