Mercury Prize nominated jazz act Gogo Penguin have announced details of their forthcoming album, Man Made Object.

The record, the trio’s third, will be released via Blue Note Records on Friday (5 February). The band, drummer Rob Turner, double bassist Nick Blacka and pianist Chris Illingworth, have recently signed a multi-album deal with the imprint after their previous LP, v2.0, received a nod from the Mercury judges.

Recent projects include writing and performing a new score for Godfrey Reggio’s cult film Koyaanisqatsi and a collaboration with noted choreographer Lynn Page for a Gilles Peterson-curated night at the Barbican.

Commenting on their new album, Chris said: ‘The title is partly inspired by my fascination with ideas of robotics, transhumanism and human augmentation.

‘We’re recreating electronic music on acoustic instruments. It’s like a man-made object that has become humanised and it seemed like a good album title, one that also means something different to each of us, and hopefully to each listener.’
