Glasgow is the UK’s best city for new music with three of its venues named as the top places to hear emerging artists, a survey has claimed.
A survey of 2,000 music fans commissioned on behalf of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau picked Glasgow’s Arches, Barrowland Ballroom and King Tut's Wah Wah Hut as the top venues to see new bands.
Other venues included in the top ten, which was commissioned by the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, included the O2 Academy in Birmingham and Ronnie Scott’s in London.
Geoff Ellis, chief executive of music promoters DF Concerts, told the Daily Record: ‘Scottish audiences are incredibly passionate about the arts and their reaction to live music in particular is often commented on by some of the biggest names in the world.
‘As a promoter, and music fan, there is nothing more satisfying than being part of an artist’s career trajectory from an intimate venue like King Tut’s to headlining a festival like T in the Park.’
Further findings revealed in the research showed that the average music fan is willing to drive 138 miles to watch their favourite band.
