Tottenham MP David Lammy, songwriter Nadine Shah and Paddy McLean from Polydor will be among the speakers at the UK Music Careers Day in Tottenham.
Taking place on Friday 10 March at New River Studios during National Apprenticeship Week, the event will highlight the importance of apprenticeships as a route to employment, as well as the career paths and opportunities available within the music industry.
Other speakers include Jessica McCarten, director at music management company Cloud X, Florence Morris research and admin officer at the Musicians’ Union and freelance broadcaster Sef Kombo.
Through talks and workshops from leading industry figures, UK Music aims to ensure more young people across the UK have access to the necessary information to take their first steps towards a career in the industry.
David Lammy, Labour MP for Tottenham said: ‘In recent years Tottenham’s vibrant music scene has produced incredible artists like Adele and Skepta who have gone on to take the world by storm. We have to continue to nurture grassroots musicians artists in our community and that is why events such as these are incredibly important - to educate, inform and encourage the next generation to get involved in the music industry. I am absolutely delighted to support this wonderful event.’
UK Music chief executive Jo Dipple said: ‘We are delighted to bring together some of London’s leading young music industry professionals to share their wealth of insight and experience with the next generation of creative talent. The sector contributes vastly to the UK economy each year and UK Music understands the importance of helping young people access a hugely important industry and take their first steps towards a fulfilling career in music.’
Nadine Shah, musician said: ‘Events like this on music education are so important. I would have relished the opportunity to sit down with experts in the music industry prior to embarking on my own musical journey, getting information straight from the horses mouth. I'm happy to share any knowledge I've acquired over the past few years with those also wishing to pursue a career in music.’
Please note this is a free event. If you would like to attend please register via Eventbrite.
