Singer songwriter Georgia Ruth has won this year’s Welsh Music Prize for her Week of Pines album.

The 24 year-old’s debut full length record was chosen as top from a shortlist of 12 by a panel of music industry experts and tastemakers.

Georgia, who is from Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, beat the likes of Euros Childs and Sweet Baboo to take the award.

Week of Pines was released in May 2013 on Gwymon Records and has received extensive play on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music.

Georgia was presented with her prize at a ceremony at the Kuku Club in Cardiff by BBC Radio Wales DJ Adam Walton.

Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 1 DJ and co-founder of the Welsh Music Prize, said: ‘Georgia’s hard work and unique talent has made her one of Wales’ favourite new artists and her music, in both Welsh and English, has won her many many fans beyond Wales. Her win is very well deserved!’

Future of the Left’s The Plot Against Common Sense and Gruff Rhys with Hotel Shampoo are the two previous winners of the prize.
