Gary Numan announces new album

Gary Numan, the synth pop pioneer behind Are Friends Electric and Cars, has announced details of his first original material since 2006.

Splinter (Songs from a Broken Mind) will be released on 15 October on his own Machine Music label and is his first new album since Jagged back in 2006.

The record is Gary’s 20th album and was made in collaboration with producer Ade Fenton. It features contributions from Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck.

In a recent interview with Stereogum, Gary revealed how the record was written as he and his family moved from the UK to Los Angeles.

He said: ‘The album has gone from being something that I was terrified to start to being something that I’m extremely proud of, so it’s a fantastic kind of end result for me. But the first few years were really difficult. I was on anti-depressants for three years, and all that horrible stuff. I’m glad all that’s gone because that was no fun at all.’

Gary will also tour the UK later on this year. The full list of tour dates is below:
