Frank Holder, a 90 year-old singer and percussionist, has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Musicians’ Company Jazz.

The composer and songwriter has been a key member of the UK jazz since first arriving in the UK from Georgetown, Guyana during the Second World War.

Previous recipients of the prize include Ken Wheeler, Norma Whinstone and Dave Green.

According to the Jazz Journal, Frank recently marked his 90th birthday at a concert at Pizza Express in Dean Street, playing two one hour sets

A co-worker of Nat Cole and Billy Eckstine, Frank tutored a young Cleo Laine in the skills of scat and vocalese.

He’s been an important figure in British jazz for more than 60 years, having toured with Tubby Hayes and Joe Harriott and been a longstanding member of the Dankworth Seven.

Frank is still looking for new musical projects - please email producer Shane Hill to find out more.
