He beat newcomers All We Are, Circa Waves, Dan Croll, Evian Christ, Ex-Easter Island Head, Mad Brains, Ninetails, Outfit, Bill Ryder-Jones, Tea Street Band and VEYU to scoop the prestigious accolade.

As well as the main prize, two new awards were introduced this year. The inaugural One To Watch Awards went to Låpsley, while the Inspiration Award was given to Liverpool's Africa Oye festival.
