The educational resource, which is free to download from www.ch-arted.co.uk, includes extracts from composer Orlando Gough’s score plus images from the event and interviews with those involved.
The Foghorn Requiem was staged at South Shields’ Souter Lighthouse on 22 June and featured three brass bands and an armada of boats positioned offshore.
Artists Lise Autogena and Joshua Portway were in charge of the project, which featured an original musical work from Gough.
The educational supplement includes a poem, fact sheets outlining the history of the lighthouse and its foghorn, and a software programme which allows users to create their own illustrated stories and poems inspired by the Foghorn Requiem.
Emma Horsman, cultural development manager at The Customs House, South Shields, which founded CH-ArtEd said: ‘Foghorn Requiem was an iconic event, which helped raise the profile of the North East and increase the awareness surrounding an intriguing aspect of coastal history.
‘The use of foghorns and this musical tribute to them offer the perfect foundation for exploring a wide range of subjects and our new resource has been developed to do just that, in a fun and accessible way.’
