FLO have won the BBC’s Sound of 2023 poll, making them the first group to win both Sound Of and the BRITS Rising Star Award in one year.

FLO are joined in the top five by Fred Again.., Nia Archives, Cat Burns and Gabriels, this year’s highest-placing non-UK act. Rounding out the list are Asake, Biig Piig, Dylan, Piri & Tommy and Rachel Chinouriri.

The Sound Of 2023 was open to new artists who had not had a top five album or more than two top 10 singles by 31 October 2022. The final list was selected by industry experts including representatives from Spotify, Apple Music, Glastonbury and the BBC, as well as former nominees. Previous winners include Pinkpantheress, Sam Smith and Adele.

FLO received news of their win from Stormzy, who they are set to collaborate with on an upcoming remix of his track Hide & Seek.

Speaking about their Sound Of win, FLO say, ‘Wow, we did it! To win this accolade not even a year after we released our debut single Cardboard Box is wild. We feel so connected to our British music roots winning BBC Radio 1’s Sound Of and admire the artists who have come before us, especially our gal PinkPantheress winning last year! Thank you to everyone who voted for us and put girl groups back on the map. To be recognised for our music and people to believe in our vision inspires us to go further this year! 2023 we’re ready!’
