The Pictish Trail, Barney Artist and Marsicans are among the winners of funding from PRS for Music Foundation’s first Flash Funding scheme.

The organisation’s new initiative offers targeted support to five emerging acts with a one week turn-around from application to decision.

Robocobra Quartet and Weirds make up the total of five recipients to receive backing, which includes having their music pressed on to 500 x 12” vinyl worth up to £2,000.

They will also receive bespoke design support using Modo’s menu of options, consultation with their creative team, release strategy mentoring with expert advice on release planning, promotion and sales strategies as each release is staggered through 2016.

Joe Frankland, senior grants and programmes manager at PRS for Music Foundation, said: ‘Congratulations to the first music creators receiving support from our pioneering Flash Funding initiative.

‘The response has been phenomenal and illustrates a real need for support among emerging artists to help produce physical vinyl copies of their music. We’re particularly pleased to support a broad range of genres and artists across the whole of the UK. We’re aware that we received a disproportionately low number of applications from women and so we encourage more female music creators to apply to our next Flash Funding round and the broad range of other PRS Foundation funding programmes which are open to music creators of all backgrounds.’

The five winners were chosen by an expert industry panel including, John Kennedy (Radio X), Julie Weir (Visible Noise), Nigel Adams (Full Time Hobby), Pip Newby (Play It Again Sam) and Amy Frenchum (Brownswood Records).

According to the foundation, the first Flash Funding project attracted 187 applications in just over 48 hours.
