Much-loved Norfolk restaurant-in-a-yurt, Shuck’s, has been named winner of PRS for Music’s inaugural Music Makeover Restaurants contest.
The business won a £5,000 prize to revamp the restaurant for live performances as it continues to support the local music scene.
PRS for Music launched the annual Music Makeover competition six years ago for the pub sector and the following year to hairdressers. More recently the competition has been extended to cater for restaurants and fashion retailers.
Its aim is to showcase and raise awareness of how important music is to local businesses. From the quality of the sound system, to acoustics, volume and playlists, music has a huge impact on both customers and staff.
As part of the celebrations, PRS for Music hosted a launch party with live performances from local artists neo-soul singer Mullally and PRS for Music Foundation supported electronic jazz trio Mammal Hands.
Philip Milner of Shuck's said: ‘We’re absolutely delighted and thrilled that we have won, and we still can't believe it. Improving our music offering was something we had always planned on doing but we couldn't afford it, and it's going to make a massive difference to our business, inside and out. Winning the PRS for Music prize means we will now be able to showcase local talent and give our customers the ultimate dining experience.’
Paul Clements, PRS for Music’s commercial director, said: ‘Shuck's really impressed me due to its unique setting, goals and its dedication and support of local community and produce. Phil's vision of how music could really impact and grow the restaurant was impressive.’
